Some people set goals to lose five pounds or run a 5K race. Alexander Diaz set a goal of collecting 100,000 pairs of shoes for Soles4Souls. That’s right, 100,000 pairs of shoes. Allan and I were fortunate to spend the day with Alexander and his dedicated band of volunteers. Wow! Alexander had boxes, bags and tubs of shoes everywhere we looked. And while we were looking, more shoes came in from people wanting to contribute to his cause of helping our shoe charity. In typical “Alexander Whirlwind” fashion, he showed us a basement filled with over 100 LARGE boxes filled with shoes. Then high school students arrived to help move those LARGE boxes into a trailer which in turn would drop off the shoes to a donated warehouse. Thank goodness we had more teenagers at the other end, willing to unload those boxes. Amid all the collecting and moving of shoes, a film crew furiously tried to capture all the action on film. We were so impressed with Alexander’s ability plan and implement the hundreds of details that go into such a massive undertaking. If you want to help Alexander, bring or ship shoes to one of three locations: 482 Southbridge Street, Auburn, MA 01501, or 210 Park Avenue, Worcester, MA, 01609, or 800 Main Street, Holden, MA, 01520. The stores will be the drop off points for shoe donations till the end of the March 2010.

You’re amazing Alexander! Can’t wait until we can help you celebrate when you reach your goal of collecting 100,000 shoes!
