Pizza and Shoes at ECCO

October 14, 2009

Quick! How many bones are in your foot? If you guessed 26 bones, you win! Bonus points for knowing there are over 26 joints in the foot also. See what you can learn when you visit shoe manufacturers? We paid a visit to the ECCO Company in Londonberry New Hampshire to thank them for their new shoe donations. Joe Mulligan organized a staff pizza party to acknowledge staff for donating their gently used shoes.

In front of ECCO® head quarters in Tønder, Denmark there is a statue of a giant foot that’s impossible to miss. The reason for it being a foot instead of a shoe is quite simple, the foot is the starting point for everything they create. The ECCO philosophy is a simple one: Their shoes must follow the foot. This in turn creates the world’s most comfortable shoe. Joe showed us shoe samples and explained the technology included in each ECCO shoe. I never knew there was so much involved in creating a pair of shoes!

Earth Inc Recycles Shoes With Soles4Souls

October 14, 2009

After a slightly rocky start to the morning because the RV decided to stop dead on a freeway on ramp, we relaxed at Earth Inc. David Aznavorian met us and explained what makes Earth Inc shoes unique. The most defining feature of Earth footwear is Kalsø® Negative Heel Technology® – a unique inclined sole that positions the toes 3.7º higher than the heels. The slight angle shifts weight subtly back over the heels, and can help strengthen and tone the body while also burning calories.

Hey! That means you burn 4 times the amount of fat than from walking in regular shoes! Once again, employees donated their gently used shoes as well as 12 boxes of new sample shoes. Thanks Earth Inc for your continued support in helping our shoe charity!

Soles4Souls RV Takes A Break

October 14, 2009

It was a dark and stormy night…actually it was a dark and rainy morning when the Soles4Souls RV decided it needed a “lift”. Just as Allan was pulling on to the freeway, the RV shut down. No power steering, no lights and virtually no brakes. He barely got the RV off the road. Soon a huge tow truck came and gave the RV a ride to the repair shop. The mechanic was helpful, although we weren’t too encouraged when he kept saying, “So, nothing is working?” We think they have the electrical problem solved and we should be on the road again in a few days. As for now, we have a tiny rental car. I’m not used to sitting so close to Allan when he drives!
